Every major US coastal region has a departure port for Spain-bound shipments. We pick up your motorcycle from anywhere in the continental United States and route it to the most practical port for your location — East Coast departures reach Spain in approximately 5 weeks, while West Coast departures from Long Beach run approximately 6 to 7 weeks.

Three Spanish arrival ports — choose the one closest to your destination
Spain is the only European destination we serve with three distinct arrival ports covering the northeast, the eastern Mediterranean coast, and the Atlantic northwest. Tell us your destination city in Spain and we’ll confirm which port your shipment routes through — your motorcycle arrives in the region you actually need, not at a single national hub far from your door.
Barcelona
Catalonia — northeast Spain
Spain’s second-largest city and Catalonia’s main port. Serves the Costa Brava, Costa Daurada, Barcelona metro area, and northeastern Spain. Also the gateway for riders planning to cross into the Pyrenees or continue into southern France.
Sagunto
Province of Valencia — eastern Mediterranean coast
A specialized vehicle terminal on the Costa del Azahar, north of Valencia city. Serves the Valencian Community, the Costa Blanca, and the central eastern corridor of Spain.
Vigo
Galicia — northwest Spain, Atlantic coast
Galicia’s most populous city and home to Spain’s busiest fishing port. Serves northwest Spain including Santiago de Compostela, A Coruña, and the Rías Baixas coastline.
Not sure which Spanish port fits your destination? Submit your quote request with your destination city and we’ll confirm the correct arrival port for your shipment.
Transit time — USA to Spain
Transit time to Spain depends on which US coast your shipment departs from. Spain’s position on the Iberian Peninsula — further into the Atlantic than northern European ports — means West Coast departures add additional sailing time compared to East Coast routes.
East Coast ports → Spain
~5 weeks
Newark / Baltimore / Newport News / Charleston / Jacksonville / Brunswick / Galveston
West Coast (Long Beach) → Spain
~6–7 weeks
Long Beach, CA — longer Atlantic crossing from the Pacific coast
The journey begins with pickup at your US address. We dispatch an enclosed truck to your home, dealership, or storage unit and transport your motorcycle to the designated departure port. At the US port, your bike is checked in, export documentation is processed, and it’s loaded onto the next available weekly sailing bound for Spain.
Because Spain has three arrival ports, the ocean routing is determined by your final destination. A shipment heading to Barcelona sails to Catalonia’s northeast port. Valencia-bound bikes arrive at Sagunto on the Mediterranean coast. Galicia-bound shipments — including riders heading to Santiago de Compostela or the Atlantic northwest — arrive at Vigo. We confirm your arrival port at booking so there are no surprises at the other end.
At the Spanish arrival port, the customs broker AA Motorcycle Shipping assigns handles the import clearance process. The recipient — or an authorized representative — collects the motorcycle, pays any applicable EU duties and Spanish VAT on-site, and is free to ride. Spain’s year-round riding climate in the south and along the Mediterranean coast means your bike is rarely waiting for weather once it arrives.
RoRo vs container shipping — which is right for your Spain shipment?
Both methods are available for the Spain route, but container shipping has a port restriction that doesn’t apply to other European destinations. Read both options carefully before booking.
RoRo — Roll-On/Roll-Off
Standard — available from all 8 US departure ports
Your motorcycle is rolled aboard a purpose-built vessel and secured on the car deck, fully enclosed within the hull for the Atlantic crossing. RoRo is available from all 8 US ports to all three Spanish arrival ports — Barcelona, Sagunto, and Vigo. Set departure and arrival dates, cost-effective, and the method used for the vast majority of Spain-bound motorcycle shipments. Whether you’re shipping a Harley to the Costa del Sol or a touring bike to the Pyrenees, this is the standard route.
Container Shipping
Premium — available from Newark, NJ and Long Beach, CA only
Your motorcycle is loaded into an enclosed steel shipping container for the full ocean crossing — the highest protection level available. Important: shared container shipping to Spain is available from Newark, NJ and Long Beach, CA only — not from all 8 US ports. If you’re shipping a pre-war classic, a show-quality custom, or a collector-grade European bike back to Spain, container is the right call.
From your US address to the departure port
Before the Atlantic crossing begins, your motorcycle travels by enclosed truck from your US location to the departure port. The domestic leg is the first link in the chain — handle it right and everything that follows goes smoothly.
Documents required to ship a motorcycle to Spain
Spain’s documentation requirements are straightforward. Have everything ready before booking — missing paperwork at the departure port can delay your sailing date and push your delivery back by a full week.

What to expect at Spanish customs
Spain is a European Union member state, which means US motorcycle imports are subject to EU external customs tariffs as well as Spanish VAT. The process is handled through your assigned broker at whichever of the three ports your shipment arrives at.
AA Motorcycle Shipping assigns a licensed customs clearance broker to your Spain shipment at the time of booking. That broker’s name and contact details are listed on your Document Receipt. The broker handles the import clearance process on your behalf at the specific Spanish port — whether that’s Barcelona, Sagunto, or Vigo — so the customs process is managed locally by someone who knows the port.
The recipient — or an authorized representative — is responsible for collecting the motorcycle after clearance and settling any applicable EU customs duties and Spanish VAT on-site at the port. Payment is typically made in cash. The duty amount is calculated based on the declared value of the motorcycle and the EU’s external tariff schedule in effect at the time of arrival. Spanish VAT (IVA) also applies to imported goods — the combined amount varies and we do not publish estimates as rates are subject to regulatory change.
If you’re relocating to Spain as a legal resident and the motorcycle is for personal use, EU import duty exemptions may apply under certain residency conditions. We recommend consulting a Spanish customs specialist or your relocation advisor for guidance on eligibility — this falls outside the scope of what AA Motorcycle Shipping manages, but it’s worth exploring before you book.
Shipping a motorcycle from the USA to Spain — four steps
The Spain route has one extra consideration compared to single-port European countries — your arrival port. Telling us your Spanish destination city at the quoting stage lets us confirm Barcelona, Sagunto, or Vigo before anything else is booked.
Request a quote
Fill out our international quote form with your bike’s year, make, and model, your US pickup zip, and Spain as the destination. Include your destination city in Spain — it lets us confirm whether your shipment routes to Barcelona, Sagunto, or Vigo before we quote. Or call 1-888-347-1391.
Pickup at your US address
We dispatch an enclosed truck to your home, storage unit, or dealership anywhere in the continental United States. Your motorcycle is secured for the domestic leg and delivered to the nearest appropriate US departure port from the 8 available.
Weekly sailing to Spain
Your motorcycle is loaded aboard the next available RoRo sailing — or a shared container vessel from Newark or Long Beach if you’ve chosen container shipping. The vessel crosses the Atlantic and arrives at your confirmed Spanish port.
Collection at your Spanish port
Your assigned customs broker clears the shipment on arrival. You or your representative collects the motorcycle, pays any applicable EU duties and Spanish VAT on-site, and the bike is yours. From Barcelona you’re minutes from the Costa Brava. From Vigo you’re an hour from Santiago de Compostela.
Shipping motorcycles from the USA to Spain since 1983
Spain’s ideal climate ensures year-round riding along the coast and nearly constant availability in Andalusia, contributing to high ownership rates. For American expats and retirees relocating to cities like Barcelona or Madrid, shipping their existing bikes is often more economical than navigating the expensive local market. With three strategic arrival ports, we deliver your motorcycle directly to your region, eliminating the need for cross-country transport.
The port coverage matters more in Spain than almost anywhere else we ship. A rider relocating to Galicia has no practical use for a motorcycle arriving in Barcelona. Someone heading to Valencia doesn’t want to collect from Vigo and ride back across the peninsula. That’s why we confirm your arrival port at booking — and why Spain’s three-port structure is genuinely useful rather than just a logistical footnote. Barcelona for Catalonia and the northeast. Sagunto for the Valencian Community and the central Mediterranean coast. Vigo for Galicia and the Atlantic northwest.
Riders heading to the Balearic Islands — Mallorca, Ibiza, Menorca — typically arrive at Barcelona and arrange onward ferry transport from the city’s ferry terminal. It’s a straightforward connection that riders with local knowledge or a relocation agent can set up in advance. If you’re planning this route, mention the Balearic destination when you request your quote so we can factor in the Barcelona arrival timing.
AA Motorcycle Shipping is not a broker. When you book, we coordinate the full door-to-port journey — domestic pickup, export documentation, ocean freight, and customs broker assignment — under one roof. You deal with one company, not a chain of subcontractors. We’ve been doing this since 1983, and Spain has been on our European roster the entire time.
Every motorcycle type — shipped to Spain
Spain’s riding culture spans everything from big American cruisers on the Andalusian highways to lightweight adventure bikes on the Pyrenean passes. We ship the full spectrum — whatever you ride in the US, we’ll get it to whichever part of Spain you’re heading to.

- Adventure & dual-sport bikes
- Vintage & classic motorcycles
- Custom builds
- Electric motorcycles

Shipping an electric motorcycle or an oversized trike to Spain? Call us before booking — some configurations require special handling for the ocean freight leg and we want to make sure everything is set up correctly before pickup day.

“My experience with AA Motorcycle Shipping was excellent. My Softail HD is spotless with no blemishes — it was picked up in Wisconsin and dropped off in California in the same condition. The staff and drivers were kind and professional. I would highly recommend them.”
Shipping a motorcycle from the USA to Spain — common questions
Spain’s three-port structure and East Coast vs West Coast transit difference generate the most questions. We’ve answered the most common ones below.
-
How much does it cost to ship a motorcycle from the USA to Spain?
Cost depends on several variables: your US pickup location relative to the departure port, your motorcycle’s year, make, and model, which Spanish arrival port your shipment routes through, and whether you’re shipping RoRo or container. We don’t publish flat international rates because the combination of these factors makes every shipment different. Submit your quote request or call 1-888-347-1391 for pricing specific to your bike and Spanish destination.
-
How long does it take to ship a motorcycle from the USA to Spain?
Transit time varies depending on which US coast you’re departing from. East Coast departures — Newark, Baltimore, Newport News, Charleston, Jacksonville, Brunswick, and Galveston — reach Spain in approximately 5 weeks. West Coast departures from Long Beach, CA take approximately 6 to 7 weeks due to the longer Atlantic crossing from the Pacific. Both figures are from the US departure port and do not include domestic transit time from your pickup location to the port.
-
Which Spanish port will my motorcycle arrive at?
Your arrival port depends on your destination in Spain. Barcelona serves Catalonia, the Costa Brava, the northeast, and Balearic Islands-bound shipments. Sagunto serves the Valencian Community, the Costa Blanca, and the central Mediterranean coast. Vigo serves Galicia, Santiago de Compostela, and the Atlantic northwest. Tell us your Spanish destination city when you request a quote and we’ll confirm the correct arrival port for your shipment.
-
Is container shipping available from all US ports to Spain?
No — this is an important Spain-specific distinction. RoRo shipping is available from all 8 US departure ports to all three Spanish arrival ports. Shared container shipping to Spain is available from Newark, NJ and Long Beach, CA only. If container is your preferred method, you’ll need to confirm your US departure port fits one of these two locations. Call us at 1-888-347-1391 if you need guidance on the best option for your situation.
-
What documents do I need to ship a motorcycle to Spain?
You’ll need the bill of sale for your motorcycle. AA Motorcycle Shipping assigns a licensed customs clearance broker at booking — their contact details are on your Document Receipt. The broker handles import clearance at your specific Spanish arrival port. If you have questions about documentation for your particular situation, call us before booking.
-
How do EU customs and duties work at Spanish ports?
Spain is a European Union member state, so US motorcycle imports are subject to EU external customs tariffs plus Spanish VAT (IVA). Your assigned customs broker handles the clearance process at the arrival port — Barcelona, Sagunto, or Vigo. The recipient settles the duty and VAT amounts on-site in cash after clearance. Duty is calculated based on the declared value of the motorcycle and the EU’s external tariff schedule in force at the time of arrival. We don’t publish rate estimates as they are subject to change.
-
What is door-to-port and how does it work for Spain?
Door-to-port means we collect your motorcycle from your US address — home, dealership, or storage unit — and coordinate everything through to your chosen Spanish arrival port. We handle the domestic US leg, all export documentation, the ocean freight booking, and customs broker assignment. At the Spanish port, you or your representative collects the motorcycle after customs clearance. The service stops at the port — onward transport within Spain is the recipient’s responsibility.
-
Can I ship my motorcycle to the Balearic Islands through Spain?
Yes — the standard route for Balearic Islands-bound shipments (Mallorca, Ibiza, Menorca) is to arrive at Barcelona and arrange onward ferry transport from Barcelona’s ferry terminal to your island. The ferry connection is frequent and well-established. When you request your quote, mention that your final destination is one of the Balearic Islands — it helps us time the Barcelona arrival correctly and flag anything relevant for your booking.
