How it works

Door-to-port shipping from the USA to Europe

We pick up at your US address, handle all export documentation, load onto the next weekly Atlantic sailing, and assign a customs broker at the European destination port. The vessel crosses the Atlantic — typically 5 to 6 weeks from East Coast ports — and arrives at your chosen European port ready for customs clearance and collection. One company manages the full journey, start to finish.

Ocean shipping methods

RoRo vs container shipping to Europe

Two methods available for all European destinations. Choose based on your motorcycle’s value, condition, and budget. The right method also depends on which European country you’re shipping to — check the individual country page for availability.

RoRo — Roll-On/Roll-Off

Standard — most European shipments

Your motorcycle is secured on the car deck inside the vessel — protected for the full Atlantic crossing. Guaranteed departure and arrival dates, cost-effective, and the most widely used method for European routes. Available from all 8 US departure ports on most routes. Bike must be in working order to ride onto the vessel.

Container Shipping

Premium — high-value, vintage & inoperable bikes

Your motorcycle ships in a sealed steel container — fully isolated from other cargo for the entire Atlantic crossing. The right method for inoperable motorcycles, rare vintage bikes, or collector-grade machines where maximum protection is the priority. Container availability varies by European destination — check the individual country page or call us to confirm availability for your route.

Large RoRo shipping vessel crossing the Atlantic — AA Motorcycle Shipping international service to Europe

The US domestic leg

From your US address to the departure port

Every European shipment starts with an enclosed truck run from your US location to the departure port. Two domestic options are available.

Motorcycle secured to enclosed trailer floor — non-palletized domestic transport to US port

Non-Palletized

Standard domestic leg

Secured with ratchet straps to floor-mounted tie-down points inside an enclosed trailer. Safe, cost-effective, and the standard choice for the domestic leg of all European shipments. Reliable for all bike types heading to any European destination.

Motorcycle on pallet in enclosed air-ride trailer — palletized domestic transport

Palletized

Premium domestic leg

Forklift-loaded onto a pallet, transported in an enclosed air-ride trailer. Smoother ride and shorter in-transit times to the departure port. Recommended for high-value, vintage, or collector motorcycles before the long Atlantic crossing to Europe.

What you need before you book

Documents required to ship a motorcycle to Europe

Have the following ready before booking. Check the individual country page for destination-specific documentation — requirements can vary by country.

  • Bill of sale
  • Original clear title — your name on the front as registered owner. If recently sold, both seller and buyer must sign the back of the title as indicated
  • Valid passport or government-issued ID — required at collection at the European arrival port
  • Fuel level at or below a quarter tank before pickup
  • Customs clearance broker — assigned by AA Motorcycle Shipping at booking for all European destinations (details on your Document Receipt)

Military PCS riders should also coordinate with their unit’s TMO/PPO office for any additional PCS-related documentation before booking.

Customs and import duties

What to expect at European customs

Customs rules vary across Europe — EU member states share a common external tariff, while Norway, Switzerland, and the UK operate their own independent customs systems. Your assigned broker handles clearance at the arrival port.

EU Member States

Belgium, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden

EU external customs tariff applies to US motorcycle imports. Local VAT assessed at the arrival port. Your assigned broker handles clearance. Recipient pays applicable duties and VAT on-site in cash.

Norway & Switzerland

Non-EU — EEA and independent customs

Norway (EEA) and Switzerland operate independent customs systems — EU external tariff does not apply. Norwegian and Swiss import duties and VAT are assessed separately at the arrival port. Check individual country pages for details.

United Kingdom

Post-Brexit independent customs

Since Brexit, the UK operates its own independent customs and tariff system. UK import duties and VAT apply to US motorcycle imports — separate from EU rules. Your assigned broker handles UK customs clearance at the arrival port.

We do not publish specific duty or VAT rates — rates depend on the declared value of the motorcycle at time of import and are subject to change. Check the individual country page for your destination or call 1-888-347-1391 before booking.

The process

Shipping a motorcycle from the USA to Europe — four steps

01

Request a quote

Fill out our international quote form with your bike details, US pickup zip, and European destination country. Tell us your destination city if your country has multiple arrival ports — Italy, Norway, and Spain all have port selection based on your location. Or call 1-888-347-1391.

02

Pickup at your US address

We send an enclosed truck to your home, storage unit, dealership, or base housing anywhere in the USA and transport your motorcycle to the US departure port. Most European routes have 8 US departure ports — we route your pickup to the most efficient one for your location.

03

Atlantic crossing to Europe

Your motorcycle is loaded onto the next available weekly RoRo or container sailing. The Atlantic crossing takes approximately 5 to 6 weeks from East Coast ports to most European destinations. Your arrival port is confirmed at booking based on your European destination country and city.

04

Collection at destination port

Your assigned customs broker clears the shipment on arrival at the European port. You or your representative collects the motorcycle, pays any applicable duties and VAT on-site, and the bike is yours — ready to ride Europe’s roads.

Due to some communication failures, we were initially sent to the wrong address in Sacramento to drop off my '14 Ultra Limited. After several frantic calls to AA Shipping in San Diego, we finally reached the Valley Relocation and Storage dispatcher who went out of her way to find us in that industrial complex. Danielle was fantastic!! Once she took control of the situation, I was able to ride the bike onto the custom pallet, warehouse gentlemen (super nice and real experts) carefully and expertly strapped the bike down, and my wife and I began our own drive across the country. We arrived in Massachusetts in 6 days; we got a phone call the following day--the bike arrived at the Sterling terminal in Lowell, MA on the 7th day! There, the guys were incredibly helpful getting the bike's battery jumped started. I can honestly say that you could do a lot worse with other motorcycle shippers, but you couldn't do better than AA Shipping. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

AMAZING service!. Julia started off by helping me navigate the on line process, then responded quickly to any questions I had throughout the transport. When a possible additional charge was suggested, Julia was able to mitigate it. My vehicle arrived in perfect condition, and the driver was very careful to unload it with great care. I could not be more pleased with the overall experience. Thank you, AA.
Response from the owner:Thanks very much for the business Todd

I was extremely hesitant to ship my motorcycle from San Diego to Oregon. The thought of pre-paying $1,000 for strangers to come and load my bike up in their box truck and drive away, hoping to see them again a few days later, made me sick to my stomach. I'm so happy I was absolutely wrong to have any negative thoughts about AA Motorcycle Shipping. They were extremely professional, communicative, and took great care of my bike. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking to ship a motorcycle anywhere in the country!
Response from the owner:Thanks for the trust and the business Riley.

got my motorcycle from Maryland to Utah in a pretty timely manner. I also needed some same day shipping and they were able to accommodate me by allowing me to bring the motorcycle to their shipping facility to get it on a crate. The customer service agent I called was also super helpful (she works in accounting, can't remember her name). Will absolutely use again if the need arises.
Response from the owner:Thanks for the business Caelan and her name is Julia.

AA Motorcycle did a great job moving my bike from Dallas to Las Vegas. The bike was delivered efficiently without any damage which sounds simple but if you've shipped a bike before you know is not always the case. They showed a lot of flexibility by delivering it to a location which wasn't originally requested when I made the reservations. I would use AA again if I needed to move my bike again in the future.
Response from the owner:Thanks for the business

Frequently asked questions

USA to Europe motorcycle shipping — common questions

  • How much does it cost to ship a motorcycle from the USA to Europe?

Cost depends on your US pickup location, motorcycle year/make/model, European destination country, departure port, and shipping method. East Coast departures are generally more affordable than West Coast. Submit your quote request or call 1-888-347-1391 for accurate pricing specific to your destination.

  • How long does it take to ship a motorcycle from the USA to Europe?

Approximately 5 to 6 weeks from East Coast ports to most European destinations. Countries in the eastern or southern Mediterranean — Greece, Italy — may take slightly longer due to the additional leg after the Atlantic crossing. West Coast departures from Long Beach take longer. Check the individual country page for destination-specific transit estimates.

  • Do EU customs duties apply to all European countries?

No — EU external customs tariff applies to EU member states only (Belgium, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden). Norway, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom each operate their own independent customs systems with separate duty and VAT rates. Check the individual country page for your destination.

  • What is RoRo shipping and is it right for European routes?

RoRo (Roll-On/Roll-Off) secures your motorcycle on the car deck inside the vessel — protected for the full Atlantic crossing. Guaranteed departure and arrival dates. Most cost-effective method and the most widely used for European shipments. Available from all 8 US departure ports on most routes. Bike must be in working order to ride onto the vessel.

  • I’m PCSing to a European military installation — can AA handle my shipment?

Yes — military PCS moves to Europe are a significant part of our volume. We ship regularly to Ramstein and other German installations (via Bremerhaven), Aviano and Sigonella in Italy (via Monfalcone and Palermo), SHAPE Belgium (via Zeebrugge), and UK installations. Military and Veteran discounts available — call 1-888-347-1391 after submitting your quote to apply.

  • What documents do I need to ship a motorcycle to Europe?

Original clear title — your name on the front, both seller and buyer signatures on the back if recently sold. Bill of sale if owned for less than 6 months. Valid passport or government-issued ID. A customs broker is assigned by AA at booking for all European destinations — their details appear on your Document Receipt. Military PCS riders should also check with their TMO/PPO office.

  • Which countries have multiple arrival ports?

Three European countries offer multiple arrival ports — Italy (6 ports: Civitavecchia, Livorno, Monfalcone, Palermo, Salerno, Savona), Norway (6 ports: Oslo, Drammen, Kristiansand, Bergen, Stavanger, Trondheim), and Spain (3 ports: Barcelona, Sagunto, Vigo). Your arrival port is confirmed at booking based on your destination city within the country.

  • How do I prepare my motorcycle for a European shipment?

Reduce fuel to a quarter tank or below. Disconnect the battery, disable any alarm system, remove all personal items and loose accessories. Photograph the bike thoroughly to document pre-shipment condition. A full pre-shipment checklist is sent when you book.
