Top Motorcycle Rides in New England Part 2

We’re back with another post about excellent rides throughout New England. We already discussed Massachusetts, Rhode Island and New Hampshire…today we’ll tackle the rest of New England. For great rides throughout scenic countryside, head to New England! Here’s why…

Connecticut

Heading along I-95, you have lots of options for ocean views, and classic landscapes and seaside villages. Speaking of seaside villages, you can’t miss Mystic in eastern Connecticut. Stop in at the real-life pizzeria for a “slice of heaven” that inspired the 1988 movie starring Julia Roberts called Mystic Pizza. Head to Stony Creek and the Thimble Islands via Route 146.

If you’re headed to CT during fall foliage season (which you should), take Route 7 to meander through the Litchfield Hills area and village of Kent for covered bridges, fine dining and boutique shopping. Check out a glass blowing studio hard at work in Riverton called Greenwoods Glass. Along Route 9, you’ll enjoy a ride through the famed River Valley region.

Vermont

For a truly rural experience that takes you through curvy roads through mountain passes, Vermont is a definite on your list. The Green Mountains alone – a beautiful leg of the Appalachians – are worth the trek. If you love to ski, take a day or two to ski Killington, Vermont’s claim to fame when it comes to world-class ski resorts. Take Route 2 through the Lake Champlain Islands, or opt for the always scenic Smuggler’s Notch at Route 108 between Stowe and Cambridge.

The mother of all routes in Vermont, though, is Route 100, running from Massachusetts through the entirety of Vermont, right up into Canada. There are a variety of side routes and stops you can choose to extend your ride and enhance your visit.

Maine

Larger by far than all of the other New England states, Maine offers unmatched beauty from its farms and parks to its scenic roadways and inland towns. The top destination here for bikers is Mount Desert Island in Acadia National Park featuring the majestic Cadillac Mountain. Route 1 is a no-brainer which is dotted with approximately 50 peninsulas and 60 lighthouses just waiting to be explored.

Want to go on some side adventures where your bike can’t go? Look to your trusted motorcycle shipping providers to offer you affordable quotes on convenient bike shipping. One such side trip would be to take a ferry to Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, from Portland, Maine. With three National Scenic Byways in Maine, you can’t beat the views and local culture afforded by this pretty New England state.
